چکیده

Abztract. We propose that a significant overestimate of the molecular oxygen absorption cross sections in the important spectral window from 2200-22220 nm is in large part responsible for the discrepancy between observed and modeled vertical profiles of some halocarbons (CFCls in particular), as well as for the long-standing problem of simultaneously fitting NsO, CH4, CF•CI• and CFCls profiles with a single eddy diffusion model. Recent measurements of the direct solar fiux in the stratosphere by J.R. Herman and co-workers seem to support this idea. Replacing our current Os cross sections in t. he 200-220 nm range by values in better agreement with the results of the above group leads to a reduction in N•O, CF•CI• and CFCI.• concentrations (by factors of 0.70, 0.62 and 0.19, respectively, at 30 km), while CH4, Ha and CO profiles are essen+.ially unchanged. Moreover, the predicted concentration of HNOs above 30 km is reduced by --60%, yielding better agreement with observations. The reduction in Os cross sections produces a 10-20% decrease in ozone above about 36 kin, but a fairly large increase (~ 30%) near the peak around 220-225 km. The changes in other stratospheric species are also briefly discussed.

Free Vibration Analysis of BNNT with Different Cross-Sections via Nonlocal FEM

In the present study, free vibration behaviors of of carbon nanotube (CNT) and boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) have been investigated via Eringen’s nonlocal continuum theory. Size effect has been considered via nonlocal continuum theory. Nanotubes have become popular in the world of science thanks to their characteristic properties. In this study, free vibrations of Boron Nitride Nanotube (BNNT) ...

Angular distributions for photodissociation of O2 in the Herzberg continuum

Photodissociation in the Herzberg continuum of molecular oxygen has been studied at 236, 226 and 204 nm. Using ion-imaging and monitoring of O(P j), j50, 1, and 2 product-atom angular distributions, the amount of parallel character of the transition was measured. In order to interpret these data, analyses of the photoabsorption oscillator strengths and the parallel-perpendicular nature of the H...

Dissociation of Relativistic Projectiles with the Continuum-Discretized Coupled-Channels Method

Relativistic effects in the breakup of weakly-bound nuclei at intermediate energies are studied by means of the continuum-discretized coupled-channels method with eikonal approximation. Nuclear coupling potentials with Lorentz contraction are newly included and those effects on breakup cross sections are investigated. We show that relativistic corrections lead to larger breakup cross sections. ...

On a continuum theory of dislocation equilibrium

Victor L. Berdichevsky Mechanical Engineering, Wayne State University, Detroit MI 48202 USA; e-mail: [email protected] (Dated: March 2016) Abstract A continuum theory of dislocations is suggested which is capable of predicting the equilibrium distributions of a large number of screw dislocations in anisotropic beams with arbitrary cross-section. The theory leads to a boundary value problem wi...

Isogeometric Topology Optimization of Continuum Structures using an Evolutionary Algorithm

Topology optimization has been an interesting area of research in recent years.  The main focus of this paper is to use an evolutionary swarm intelligence algorithm to perform Isogeometric Topology optimization of continuum structures.  A two-dimensional plate is analyzed statically and the nodal displacements are calculated.  The nodal displacements using Isogeometric analysis are found to be ...
